  5. Thank you for trying Shutdown Monitor!  Shutdown Monitor is a 
  6. powerful, flexible, and easy-to-use add-on for Windows 95/NT 4.0.
  7. It allows you to selectively automate running programs, batch files, 
  8. command lines, etc. when Windows 95/NT 4.0 is shutting down.

  10. FEATURES
  11. --------
  12. Shutdown Monitor will create a 'Shutdown' directory on your start 
  13. menu.  When Windows 95 shuts down you can:
  14. *   Select Shutdown Monitor to automatically run any programs 
  15.     (shortcuts) located in the shutdown directory.
  16. *   Have Shutdown Monitor query you at shut down and select which 
  17.     programs you would like to run
  18. *   Select not to run any programs
  19. *   Cancel Windows shutdown
  20.  
  21. STORED COMMANDS
  22. *   You can also selectively execute stored commands and command lines 
  23.     at shut down.  Anything that you can Run from the Start>Run menu, 
  24.     you can execute from Shutdown Monitor, including DOS commands.

  26. Shutdown Monitor is "User Profile" aware.  Each user will have their 
  27. own Shutdown directory and commands list to execute.

  29. You can also use the built-in Windows Shutdown program to automate and
  30. execute time-consuming shutdown procedures.

  33.    "I'm a programmer.  I wanted a way to automate backing up my essential
  34. files and libraries.  I had a terrible habit of forgetting to back up my
  35. files until after I had already shut my system down.  I tried using the 
  36. Startup folder, but that meant 1) I did my automatic backup BEFORE I made
  37. any changes and 2) My backup ran every time I rebooted (which was pretty
  38. often).  I knew that there were other utilities around that automatically
  39. ran programs at shut down, but I didn't want to run these programs and
  40. batch files every time I rebooted.  So Shutdown Monitor was born.  I'm
  41. happy with the way it turned out.  It really is a headache saver."

  59. INSTALLATION
  60. ------------

  62. Install this program by running the self-extracting archive,
  63. ShutInst.exe (e.g. double click on its icon). You will be prompted
  64. for the target folder, where Shutdown Monitor files will be installed.
  65. A Shutdown Monitor group (menu) will be created in your Windows
  66. Start menu.

  70. If you're installing from diskettes, run Setup.exe and follow the 
  71. prompts.

  91. TO REGISTER
  92. -----------
  93. To register copies of Shutdown Monitor, please use the "Register" 
  94. program usually provided with Shutdown Monitor to make payments.  
  95. We use KAGI SHAREWARE registration service, which accepts different 
  96. payment methods, including credit card and invoices. You may also 
  97. mail your check or money order written in US currency only, directly 
  98. to the address below, payable to Daniel Shapiro.

  101.    Single licenses:    $20 each
  102.    Site license:       $500  (Site licenses cover a single organization 
  103.         for an area of up to one hundred miles (160 km) in radius.)

  106. Shutdown Monitor may be also registered using CompuServe SWREG forum 
  107. (GO SWREG). The Registration Id. is 14126. The price for single user 
  108. license at CompuServe is $22 due to the 15% charge they impose.

  110. Shutdown Monitor is a fully functional, time-limited shareware product.  
  111. The evaluation period is for 45 days.

  117. ============
  118. Version 1.1.0 - Added the ability to automatically cancel the Windows
  119.     shutdown.  Useful if the programs/commands you were executing
  120.     took too long and Windows shutdown was timing out.  If 
  121.     AutoCancel Windows Shutdown was selected, then Shutdown Monitor
  122.     will present the user with it's own Windows Shut Down
  123.     selection window.

  125.     Added WinNT 4.0 support.

  127. Version 1.2.0 - Fixed a bug that prevented certain types of shortcuts
  128.     from being executed properly.

  130.     Added a module that you can perform the 'Windows Shut Down'
  131.     from.  The advantage to using the Windows Shut Down module that
  132.     comes with Shutdown Monitor (instead of the one on the "Start" 
  133.     menu) are:
  134.       1. You completely avoid having Windows' Shut Down timing out.
  135.       2. You don't have to wait until all your programs and commands
  136.          execute to finish shutting down.
  137.       3. You avoid using system resources while Shutdown Monitor runs
  138.          in the background (or minimized) waiting for Windows to 
  139.          Shut Down.

  141.     List Commands and Shutdown Folder programs in one window.  Added
  142.     priorty run buttons (like in Shutmon Maintenance).  Now you can
  143.     review the entire execute list at one time, and modify the run
  144.     order of the entire execute list, not just the command lines.
